It is always interesting to read a guide to local eating for any city when it is written for tourists:will the author write about local eateries enjoyed by locals or focus on the tourist district with emphasis on places frequented by out-of-town people?

Whether Liz Crain is originally a Portland native or a hipster transplant is unknown, however her focus is unfortunately on places for tourists to eat that aren't typically frequented by locals. Dozens of Portland culinary institutions are completely ignored in this book preferring instead to focus on nouveau houte cuisine.

If you're a native Portlander, then you will likely not be pleased with this book; however, if you're an out-of-town guest looking for the latest shtick to fill your belly without the bother of asking locals where they'd suggest you dine, then you'll be happy with the book.
