(More customer reviews)As both a mother of grown daughters and a professional in the field of mental health, I thought I knew all there was to know about adolescent development.I was wrong. This comprehensive book not only addresses age-old challenges associated with maturation (breast development, menstruation, sexuality) but also current concerns that are a part of growing up as a young woman in an ever changing, progressive culture that oftentimes sends mixed messages and exerts tremendous pressure on girls to grow up too quickly. It addresses topics such as body piercing and body art, sexuality, self-harming behaviors, substance abuse, and signs of mental illness. The strength of this book is its ability to empower both mothers and daughters as they wrestle with difficult questions and makes conversations about these and other topics feel less threatening.I highly recommend it for other health professionals who work with woman and for mothers of pre-adolescent and adolescent daughters.Bravo Dr. Davis!I only wish I'd had this guide when my daughters were growing up!
