The author of this book should be familiar to those in the law enforcement field. He has written fourteen other books, but is most known for writing "Contact and Cover," which is a book every officer should have read sometime in his or hercareer. This newest book will be of benefit to both the new officer and the experienced officer. The reason seasoned officers should also read this book is because it points out a simple fact.Mistakes that are made by ignoring common safety procedures is what gets officers hurt andkilled on the street.

If there was one simple sentence to describe the theme of this entire text,it would be to remember, "The devil is always in the details."The author points out that by taking short cuts or ignoring crucial steps, is the primary reason officers make serious mistakes on the street. This very educational book consists of fourteen detailed chapters in four sections. One of the many things I like about this book is that at the end of each chapter the author gives five keys to tactical perfection for each topic covered. The author emphasizes that when officers attempt to cut corners or modify proper procedures, is when vital mistakes are made on the street. Tactical perfection is doing police work without any mistakes.
Section one has three chapters explaining the theory behind tactical perfection, searching, handcuffing and transporting subjects.Offensive tactics from non-lethal to lethal is also covered in this section.

The second section covers the various stops officers make and the proper procedures of the traffic stop, the pedestrian stop with field interviews, gang stops, police pursuits, whether in a car or on foot. This section emphasizes that officers must never become complacent and think of stops as "routine."

Section three deals with domestic violence calls, robbery calls, burglary/prowler calls, school violence calls and work-place violence calls.

The final section covers specialarrests such as dealing with transients, substance abusers, and the mentally ill.The last chapter explains how to deal with professional crooks.

There is an afterward which is a must read because it covers how the author adaptedthe " "28 articles for tactical perfection" from the "28 commandments" developed by Lt. Col. David Kilcullen.

In conclusion, This is a book that could be used as a training manual because of the depth of the material, as well as a reference book for all officers desiring to handle each call perfectly with no mistakes.I give this book my highest rating.
