(More customer reviews)I bought this book and read it cover to cover before I got my first tattoo (three weeks ago at age 35).I wanted a tattoo, but I had two problems: I am afraid of needles and I like to know what is going to go on - no surprises.
This book answered all my questions about health, safety, cost, tipping, and the million other things that I was unsure of going into this new territory.Having read this book (about a week before I got my tattoo) enabled me to have a relaxing and enjoyable first tattoo experience. I was able to walk in to the tattoo shop already knowing how it would happen, step by step.
I would highly reccommend this book to anyone who is considering their first tattoo. The information on choosing a design and location are very helpful (in addition to all the things I mentioned above).I would say this is a 'must read', especially if you are nervous about the whole process. This takes the 'mystery' out of getting a tattoo.
In addition, the information about the history of tattooing, and tattooing in other cultures is quite interesting. There is also a good bibliography and list of helpful websites in the back of the book.
Even though I already got the tattoo, I still pick up the book and read sections of it.It is interesting to read now that I have been inked.I'm sure that I will read it again before getting my next tattoo. (I'm already working on a couple of ideas!)
